At the same time that I was working on the MHL 70th Anniversary Logo, I was approached by CHS (Canadian Hospital Specialties Ltd) for their 50th Anniversary Logo. CHS provides a number of supplies to hospitals across the country (and elsewhere), and celebrating their involvement with Canadian health is important to them.
The challenge with their logo is it’s a really great example of 60’s industrial design. And because one of the primary uses was going to be on their packaging: which is a single colour design. Integrating that with the ask for something that highlighted their Canadian base, and felt like it had some heritage to it meant something that could be pretty flexible. I tried a few options that reflected that industrial style (because I like it), but that didn’t really work. After a little bit of playing around, I landed on using the zero as a badge to land the original logo in – which worked for both me and the client.
